Status

The Thane Scuba Diving Club is a Non-Government Organization (NGO), which was formed in October 1983.

Dr.Vishwas Sapatnekar, Mr.Vijay Patwardhan, Mr.Nana Patwardhan and Mr.Mahesh Rajderkar (Founder Members)
actively participated in formulating the "Vision and Mission" of the Club.

In October 1995, Dr.Vishwas Sapatnekar, who was the Founder Member and was the Chief of the Club,
left India for his medical profession abroad.

Subsequently, Mr.Vijay Patwardhan, who was also the Founder Member and the Chief Instructor of the
Club, took over activities of the Club.

The Club is thankful to Mr.Vilas Samant, the Corporater of the Thane Municipal Corporation for his invaluable
support and also to Mr.Bhagwan Baviskar, the then Manager of the Marotrao Shinde Swimming Pool, Thane for his
invaluable guidance for renewing permission of the Thane Municipal Corporation to continue its Scuba training
activities.

The Club is also wholeheartedly thankful to Mr.Chandrasekhar, the then Municipal Commissioner of the Thane
Municipal Corporation for revitalizing the Club's activities in November 1996.

The Club is registered with the Charity Commissioner of Thane, Maharashtra, India as an "Educational Trust" with
Registration No. E/3017/Thane dated 05 March 2003.

In March 2006, Mr.Vijay Patwardhan joined hands with the American Canadian Underwater Certification
(ACUC International). ACUC International is a member of Recreational Scuba Training Council (RSTC),
which is controlling international scuba training activities, diving safety standards.

He was awarded the highest level in the Recreational Scuba Diving and achieved the ACUC Instructor
Trainer Evaluator Certification.

He also signed an Agreement with the ACUC as their Delegate to India; to promote, control, manage and
implement ACUC's Highest International Recreational Scuba Standards.

He has plans to educate the Indian citizens and set up dive centres all over India.
